Set in the beautiful and peaceful grounds of Bethlem Royal Hospital, the club with its professionally maintained green lies in the heart of a woodland setting with its own club house, changing rooms and bar.
We are very much a mixed club with a good balance of male and female members, couples and singles.
The emphasis is enjoying both the game and the social atmosphere in equal measure.

History of the club
Bethlem Royal Hospital Bowls Club was founded in 1936 as part of the Sports and Social Club for male employees of Bethlem Royal Hospital. A Ladies Section was added in 1970 and over the years the club has opened its doors to friends and local people, both as players and as social members. It is now a private club maintained by the members, men and women having equal membership facilities.
I joined Bethlem in the summer of 1994 and with several other new members we had tuition on Saturday mornings from a couple of the more senior members. It was great fun but as I was still working I felt it was a game for the “oldies” to spend their retirement days. How wrong I was! I have always enjoyed playing at Bethlem despite taking time out for various operations over the years. It is a fantastic club with a great competitive spirit, a very good atmosphere and excellent social activities. So, after 28 years I will continue to play at Bethlem Royal Hospital Bowls Club.
